Martin Luther King once said, “We must face the fact that in America the church is still the most segregated major institution in America. At 11:00 on Sunday morning when we stand and sing and Christ has no east or west, we stand at the most segregated hour in this nation. This is tragic.” Scripture calls us to unity, and yet we are still divided in so many ways. How do we enact the change that we so speak of desiring? The Color of Compromise is an urgent call to action for all Christians. It reminds us the call on all followers of Christ to be a part of the hard work that results in unity. It helps us see how a more racially unified church does not compromise on what the Bible teaches about human dignity and equality. It is a call to all Christians to take a stand and begin implementing steps that lead to equity and an inclusive environment among God’s people. The Color of Compromise tells a story that we either ignore or just don’t know through the lens of history, sociology, and religion and then helps us chart a path to replace established patterns of complicity with bold, courageous, and immediate action.
